How does a call work?

See each step of a call, from the host's phone ringing first to how your number stays private.

Hello Fraands works like a switch. We connect two phones, but we hide both numbers. Here is each step, in order.

The steps

  1. You pick an online host and tap call on the website.
  2. The host’s phone rings first. The host hears a private message. It says your display name and how many times you have called before. Your phone number is not said.
  3. The host presses 1 to accept or 2 to decline. If the host does not answer in 10 seconds, it counts as a decline.
  4. Now your phone rings. This happens only after the host says yes. You pick up.
  5. Both of you hear a short safety notice.
  6. You are joined. The two calls are connected through a platform number. You can talk.

Your number stays private

Neither of you ever sees the other’s personal phone number. You see a platform number, and so does the host. This is the main reason the service is built this way.

Masking hides your number. It does not hide what you say. So do not share your full name, address, workplace, social media or bank details.

What if the host says no?

You pay nothing. Ringing, a decline, a timeout, or a call that never connects all cost ₹0. Charging starts only when both of you are connected. Try another host.

AI keeps an eye on the call

AI follows every live call in real time. It does not look for bad words from a list. It understands what the person means.

  • Telling a story about a bad day is fine.
  • Abuse, threats, sexual pressure or a scam is not fine.
  • A slow build-up to “just tell me the OTP” is a scam, and the AI can see it.

If this happens, the call ends by itself and the account is flagged. No person listens to your live call. We do not record it.

The # key

You can press # at any time. It does three things:

  • It ends the call.
  • It blocks the other person.
  • It reports the incident.

You can also just hang up. Either person can hang up at any second. See End a call and the hash key.

Will the other person see my phone number?

No. Your two phones are joined through a platform number. Neither person ever sees the other's personal number.

Why does the host's phone ring before mine?

The host may say yes or no first. You only get a ring after the host says yes. So you do not wait for nothing.

Does anyone listen to my call?

No person listens to live calls. We do not record calls or keep call audio.
